The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ annual Friday-before-the-Emmys cocktail celebration honoring the nominees took place at Wolfgang Puck’s Spectra Restaurant Center at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. It was fun to see all the nominees schmoozing with each other, like former ‘Friends’ and now ‘Episodes’ star Matt LeBlanc chatting with ‘Modern Family’s’ Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Another ‘Modern Family ‘ cast member Ty Burrell who plays Phil and later won the Emmy, was kind enough to let me cut in line for the scrumptious food that Puck is famed for. Truth be told, I was starving and didn’t see that there was a line. That Ty was just so darn gracious. After I ate of course, I chatted with Seth Green, who was nominated for his voice over for ‘Robot Chicken.’ Seth was with his new wife Claire Grant and told me the secret of his marriage. ‘I married someone I really liked a lot. I’m telling you, it’s important!’ ‘Mike and Molly’s’ terrific Reno Wilson and Nyambi Nyambi told me this season will be ‘totally chaotic.’ Jon Cryer came with his lovely wife Lisa Joyner and his mom, actress Gretchen Cryer. Jon told me that, ‘I like this party cause it’s so easy and the food is so delicious. My Mom seems more excited to meet these celebrities than to hang with me!’ Next on my list is The Entertainment Weekly/Women in Film party at the BOA Steakhouse on the Sunset Strip. This hip soiree attracted lovely ladies like Julie Bowen from ‘Modern Family,’ who went on to win the Emmy. The sultry Sofia Vergara, also from ‘Modern Family,’ told me how excited she was to be ‘a part of this whole madness!’ Attendees sipped the best supporting apple and munched on slider hor deuves. I talked to ‘The Office’s ‘Craig Robinson, who said, ‘Hey, we all miss Steve Carell, but the show must go on. James Spader is amazing, so tune in!’ I spoke to two of the stars of ‘The Big Bang Theory.’ Simon Helberg, who plays Howard Wolowitz, told me that, ‘this season is full of dysfunction and baby steps towards all of us becoming actual human beings. Cameos from ‘Star Trek’ cast members and a bumpy road to probably what will be a disastrous wedding for Howard and his fiancé Bernadette.’ Melissa Rauch who plays Bernadette added, ‘ I don’t know if we’re actually going to get Howard to move out of this house. I’m definitely marrying Mrs. Wolowitz, along with Howard!’
As leaders and managers, you do not know which way your business will go either. in this volatile economy, you cannot predict which types of contacts and business sources will be able to answer your question or help you make the next move. since they operate outside of your environment, your weak connections may be the ones to provide the bridge you need to walk into a new world of opportunities.
We’re providing information on how to donate, highlighting compelling historical connections and offering updates about what is happening in East Africa. We’re hoping people will share this information with their own networks, family and friends. This week we met with the Rhode Island Irish Famine Memorial Committee who spearheaded the building of a beautiful memorial to the victims of the Great Irish Famine. As a living memorial, fighting hunger today has always been a part of their mission. They plan to present a donation at an October 9th ceremony at the Memorial in Providence and to encourage their many member Irish American organizations to get behind this effort. Folks should stay tuned for information on upcoming events.
